Okay, here's the only arty stuff I've done in a while.
Since I'm working on building model scenery for Warhammer, I cut up some 1 inch pink insulation foam into various shapes, then glued them together to resemble hills.
I then painted them brown with latex paint, and them painted the tops green. It gave the hills a terraced look -the reason I did that was so that the hills would be capable of holding up our miniatures without them tipping over, we'll have to suspend disbelief, I fear.
The green portions were then smeared with a mixture of white glue and water, then dipped in flock -basically, green sawdust, this gives the appearance of grass. Since a little glue got on the brown portions, and the flock stuck to it, it also looks like lichen growing into the rock. Over all, I'm happy with how they turned out.
What I'm not happy about is the way I'm going to have to drop so much money on my little army guys to paint them the way I want. It takes three paints in different coats to get the look I desire, and this is money I don't have. This project may not be complete until I find a real damn job.
In the meantime, batches of my army guys are soaking in a glass jar of a cleaning product called "Simple Green", so that I can scrub them clean, then prime them, so I can paint them.
The plan is to prime them with black spray paint, then basecoat them with a super-dark blue. Then a lighter shade of dark blue. This doesn't include painting the other parts I have to paint (Red (with a basecoat), fleshtone (with a basecoat), metal, and glossy black boots) or highlights. So not only am I looking for these paints for cheap, but under a name different than what I know for them, as I'm looking to buy these paints from a different company, since I'm not at all happy with Games Workshop (the manufacturer of Warhammer, its minis, and a line of paints for said minis).
I love this hobby, all the same. I am considering starting with a new game called "Warmachine" which is not nearly as infuriating. Most armies top out at 20 models -it's just that there were no other options for wargames when I started collecting, ten years ago, and I ended up with a force of too many models... yet I'm the weirdo because I don't own a metric ton of them like other players.
I'm gearing up for Script Frenzy. I'll attempt a "Pantser", as I did for NaNoWriMo. Dialogue is by far my weakest point.
